by Tiffany Wong Welcome to July! This month, we celebrate Jesus’ most precious blood! Blood is essential to our life, making up seven percent of our body, and is vital for delivering oxygen and nutrients to our cells. There is no substitute for blood: it cannot be made or manufactured. Your blood helps to protect you from viruses and heals your wounds. The blood of Jesus works similarly in a spiritual manner: the blood of Christ shed during His crucifixion cleanses us from sin, sanctifies us and provides us with nourishment through the holy Eucharist. Every time we receive the Eucharist, we are reminded of the sacrifice of Jesus: He gave his blood, the very essence of his life, to forgive us of our sins and help us attain eternal life. The blood Jesus shed during the crucifixion is a blessing, showing his constant, unfailing love for us. During the crucifixion, Jesus shed blood 7 different times. Let us reflect on its significance. 1) Jesus sweat blood at the Garden of Gethsemane: his blood now gives us the willpower to overcome all adversity and temptations in our lives. 2) Jesus shed blood from his back during the scourging: this blood makes us whole and heals us through Jesus' meekness. 3) Jesus suffered internal bleeding while being beaten: this blood heals us from inner pains and iniquities. 4) Jesus shed blood from his head when he received the crown of thorns: this blood gives us the power to think clearly and not succumb to sin. 5) Jesus shed blood from his hands when they pierced him with nails: this blood helps us to use our hands to serve others. 6) Jesus shed blood from his feet when they pierced him with nails: this blood gives us authority to walk a righteous path with our feet. 7) Jesus shed blood when they pierced his side: this blood brings us joy. Jesus suffered all of this with his heart for our sins and betrayal: this blood heals us from all heartbreak and sadness. Jesus offered every drop of his blood and every ounce of his entire being as a sacrifice for all of us. Let us begin this month with a reminder that Jesus' precious blood is a universal component that heals, restores, and forgives. Jesus gave his life for us, so let us show Jesus our love for Him by how we live our lives and love others. Tiffany Wong joined EPIC Ministry in 2019.
